I know this happens to us all, there is a band that is talked of highly by so many and when you finally hear it, you do not understand why people rave about it.
one band that happened to me with was Dagon... wow i cant stand them, they have all the elements that would make a good band, but it just doesnt cut it with me. I dont like it.
why do people like them so much? i dont get it... well the few that like them, seem to really like them.
another band that is over hyped is Mort, sure they have some good albums, even a couple great ones, but i dont get the "newest mort is the best album ever" smack that people are always talking.
what about you?
maybe my band is the band you dont get... its alright, lets talk music here.

I have that with Eluveitie to be honest, and will probably receive some comments on this, but Eluveitie lost originality and rawness with their new album. Using all kinds of over-used folk melodies and sounding too polished While their EP was so beautiful with it sounding a tad primitive.
I know what you're talking about when addressing Mortification, They indeed past their expiration date on some aspects, but their new album was better than anything they released since Hammer of God IMO, and that deserves some kind words. 2 songs on it are tracks I really enjoy (Way Truth Life and Razorback), but the other traks are quite mediocre.
There are a whole bunch of metalcore bands that are nothing more than a repetitive clone of another clone.
I don't agree on Dagon though, I really like them a whole lot. But it misses something they did have while being Bestiary.
Antestor is also a band that IMO is too highly praised these days. The Forsaken is probably my least favourite Antestor recording, yet it seems like 60% of the people likes this one the most and hails them as best black band out there. THey ARE good (or certainly WERE good) but The Forsaken was not that legendary IMO.
I could go on and talk about overrated bands, but I'll do that in another post when I have a tad more time
Interesting topic though

I can't get into Dagon either.
Eluveitie might polished, even too much. But imo they are still awesome. But I really feel "Vên" lacked originality and musicianship.
Mortification is okay, but nothing more. They've got like 3 songs I enjoy a lot! But that's it. To me it's nothing special, sure it might have been good back in the day. But nowadays, it's not really special in anyway anymore.
If there is any album lacking originality and rawness it must be "The Forsaken" Don't get me wrong, Antestor is my favorite band, but "The Forsaken" does little for me.
I can't really bring any band to mind right now, which I feel is too hyped. No wait, there's a whole label I don't get. EEE, I almost ashaimed to be a christian metalhead with EEE around, bringing out "music".

Oh and Pantokrator, Besides "Aurum" being good, nothing more. They bore me, "Songs of Solomon" can be fun at times. But everything else bores me.

Hahaha I don't get the hype either around EEE, I never understood it. Except for Elgibbor they haven't done anything good. (almost did something nice with Roots of Tragedy and Sorrowstorm though)
And about Pantokrator, I'm also a fan of Aurum and SOngs of Solomon, the other tracks don't do me a lot either.

I 'enjoy' elgibbor from time to time, but I'm not much into black metal like that in a whole, that's why I rarely listen to it.

Luckily there are no really great hypes in the metalscene. Well, at least not in this ''christian metal''scene. But there are a LOT in the secular world. Look at Evanescence, Within Temptation, Metallica, Korn, Dimmu Borgir and Slipknot.

that's because all those bands are very mainstream.
I think there are a lot of overhyped christian metalbands too, but those are just overrated on a less bigger scale, because they're also less known.

that's because musically wise they unleashed quite something back in the day and deserve respect for that

Actually, there are lots of hypes within the christian metalscene. None of the bands you mention are actually hyped about (anymore). Especially in the Christian Black metal scene there are lots of hypes, probably because there are so few high-quality releases there. I've seen hypes around Sanctifica's SoP, Slechtvalk's The War that Plagues the Lands, Crimson Moonlight's TCP and Antestor's The Forsaken.

In Holland the hype is still alive...That's what I meant.
Well, I'm not a ''true'' (ahem) metalhead for that long yet, so I have missed lots of stuff considering these albums.

I'd suggest Scrolls of the Megilloth or the Selftitled

I love Flaskavsae and Njiqahdda a lot, but I guess one would have to really like ambient BM and such things to like those two bands . After all, the 3 Flaskavsae releases I have do sometimes remind me slightly of Lurker of Chalice, which I LOVE. And yeah, I like Elgibbor quite a bit as well.

Nah, Mordecai has never been hyped, even though they are amazing. Vaakevandring has only gotten LOTS and LOTS of positive response, simply because most of us has fallen in love with them immediatly.
Also, noone talks about Sanctifica anymore. Which really is a shame because their material on the Panto-split simply rules, Spirit of Purity is really good and the Negative B release is also really enjoyable.
