| I didn't imply that. It's just that Jesus said that if we have an enemy, we should not hate him, but love him. We should feed him when he is hungry, give him a beer when he is thirsty, and so on. That's the ultimate display of love. | |

It doesn't say..you have no enemies because of love. People make their own enemies and it is up to them to identify another person as one. An enemy is someone who endangers you, while at the same time we shouldn't be afraid of any human threats. Trying to save their earthly lifes they are losing the other. For they are thinking through the flesh and not through spirit. Turn the other cheeck and embrace your enemies. For they are only able to kill the body, but not the soul.

I agree. I was just making the point that although you love him, Christ still refers to him as "your enemy"... and if he is coming to kill you, I see no place in scripture where it declares you wrong for defending yourself and killing him first if he is the KIND of enemy that is coming to kill you, your friends and you family. "Turn the other cheek" is one of the verses requiring spiritual discernment, imo. Trying to apply it to every possible situation , like almost any verse in scripture, is unwise.

I disagree. Did Adam and Evermake Satan their enemy? Did the Jews in Nazi Germany make the Nazi's their enemies? No. "Our enemy , the devil, roams about as a lion, seeking whom he might devour." - paraphrasing from scripture.

'Enemy' is a term which one makes him/herself. Someone who threats you bad or even harms you is not immediatly your emeny. He/she or it is after you've accepted them as an enemy. Same goes for friends. If someone declares war with you and you'll walk away, he is not, and can not, be your enemy. This person can still be a danger towards you ( like the Nazi's towards the Jews and Satan towards the main characters of the Genesis ) and yes, a life threatening one. But not your enemy. For an enemy is one you hate with a passion.
