| i think you all know this question:
can metal be christian?
a few month ago i had a big discussion with a guy from my church. and he had the idea that metal is from satan, even christian metal.... i've tried to talk that out of his head...but don't know if that's happent.
my question:
what do you answer when someone asks you this question?

| Hasn't this been proven allready?
Music means complete freedom of speech. Including spiritual beliefs. So yes, metal can be christian.
Satan is the ruler of this world, but does this mean certain people on it can't be christian?

| i know that's proven, but some people still think that metal can't be christian because of the fact that the most satanic bands, are metal bands... and they think that God don't like "hard" music....
and the lie of satan that he owns metal....
so, it's to us as chiristian metal listeners to tell the world that you can prays God with all kinds of music, not only the "brave and soft" music
and here in this topic i wanted to know how the people tells that metal can be christian, and witch arguments you use for that

| Being a christian isn't ment for closed-minded people. For they will fail to understand. Those who have truly opened their eyes do not make a point of worshipping through hard music. Even though if he/she dislikes the music. So please, do not worry that much about nonsense like this. | |

| My viewpoint on this you can find here... (it's in Dutch though) http://www.xistinchrist.nl/Frontoffice/artikel.php?Articles_ID=153I would like to add: The thing called 'music' is just something ''hollow,'' it has no intention of itself, it has no opinions and doesn't influence you. But here does not exist such music. People make music to express emotions, situations and all, and eventhough music is instrumental, it's influence on you depends on what the SOURCE for the music is, and what the intention is. ''Christian'' metal, based on themes like God's grace and spiritual battle, has the intention to make you think about these things, and go along with the ideas as you read the lyrics. And, last but not least, praise God with this music! So, when you act theatrical, and apply paint with that and have loud guitars, is that evil? Is that satanic? There are a lot of lyrics which you can put acoustic guitar under and put it in an Opwekking (Hillsong like) bundle. I don't mean to compare metal lyrics to ''plain'' CCM lyrics, but it is possible. And if you would do that, people would go like: Oh man, is this great worship music! Praise God for this, blah blah. But you can also bring the music in other ways, for example with growls, double bass and loud guitars, to even empower that message! It's about the MESSAGE, that is the thing that counts when looking at: is something Christian or not? Yes, I know there are people who do not feel comfortable with this music and get a bad feeling on this. That's simply because they are not used to loud, distorted guitars or theatrical things! And what about moshpits? Have you ever seen such ''hateful people who just bash into another and hurt each other?'' And to even say it is Satanic then seems very close-minded and judgemental to me. Just because you don't like the music and things that belong to it it, is not Satanic! I experience the sphere at ''christian'' concerts as relaxed, friendly and a bit on the active side, meaning a lot of people are enjoying the band and express that in their own way. One person just stands there and enjoys the music silently, other express that by headbanging or moshing. It's simple. | |

| ah i see... i said something like this to that guy i had a discussion with so, you see people with long hear, banging and jumping around at stage, making hard music you don't like, and say: "this is not from God!" ? isn't that to God to judge? i said it a bit longer and with more examples, but it comes to this. after i said this, he never started again over this i remember now how it all started i was wearing a t-shirt from Demon Hunter that Sunday this one and he asked what it was, so i answerd: the logo of a christian metal band....and after that the rest of the story | |

| This question is usually asked out of ignorance, do remember that. Also, do remember to love your brothers and sisters in Christ, and to not provoke them.
I've had this discussion a gazillion times when I listened metal, people usually don't change their opinions though, we as Christians so quickly and easily shape a concept of who God is and what God wants. Usually, when people say "God can't like metal", that's because they can't imagine anyone liking metal anyway, let alone a perfect and divine being!
That being said, now I stand outside of the metalscene, there are certain things in the metalscene that I'm not so sure about; where is the line between simply 'being a little more extreme than most' and intentionally provoking? I'm not sure. Which is interesting, because when I was a part of it, I was quite confident of most things. I guess you can only understand certain aspects of metal when you're an insider and in to that stuff.

If you look at metal as an 'outsider' ; as you call it, I think you only see people who make loud and noisy music, and dress up strange.... Well, I have to say, the first metal I heard was from Dimmu Borgir and I saw live videos and all. To me, it looked intriguing and fascinating...
