Are there any secular (symphonic black/ melodic death) bands where a christian is 'allowed' to listen to? I want to widen my music taste and be more open-minded (but still careful) towards music which isn't directly christian.

I sometimes listen to Kalmah and Norther, I'm not sure how safe Norther is, but Kalmah isn't that bad I think I also listen to Nile, which deals with egyptian history. _________________

hurray for Nile (=brutal death metal), I guess Nile depends on how you stand against them, they sing a lot about pagan gods and the old Egyptian ways. I'm fine with Nile, because they just tell the history and culture of Egypt, which I find really fascinating. And since there second full-length, they have included explanations on the lyrics and were they got them from. Same thing goes with Eluveitie for me. Personally still don't really know about Chthonic, but their music is awesome! They are (as far as I know) kind of a Taiwanese version of Nile (but making there own symphonic black)

Kalmah has power metal lyrics most, so they are fantasy minded i think.... Norhter is more about feelings from thereselve i think, sometimes a bit depressed But i like both bands, but Northers new album sucks for me. I like the new COB even more when you talk about safe i think that all the power metal is fine, bands like rhapsody about mythologie fantasies, and legendary stories etc. Ayreon, space and sience fiction i think thats ok Catamania is a bit a doubt for me but i listenen to the band because they are sounding so awesome great melodies i love it

Summoning perhaps? Very atmospheric epic black metal... I haven't read many of their lyrics, but as far as I know, they are mainly inspired by Lord of The Rings and Tolkien in general.

Nile are awesome, got all their albums and its refreshing to see a secular act as brutal and talented as Nile not resorting to Satanic and negative lyrics. Those guys can certainly play their instruments.

Indeed, there's no ''evil'' to be found in their lyrics, only darkness. Great project, got 2 albums myself. |
