Why don't you go back to the style of oldschool trash metal?

(you may pronounce it differently, I'm not sure how to formulate this one)

how would that person know that they're not going to place old school thrash anymore?

You could ask: Are you going back to the oldschool trash metal style?

that could be a better one indeed.
